Whilst I am sure you are right I personally only ever had VHS as Betamax was no longer being produced in the late 80's. It? wasn't till the mid 90's or so that stereo VHS became affordable (why there was such a premium on Nicam models I will never know!). Just been going through your channel, lots of stuff stirring the memory I must say. I also completely forgot that Top Gear was on before Clarkson et al were presenting it! That depended on your machine. Our Sony BetaHiFi still had better picture quality on a three hour tape than a 3? hour tap on a VHS HiFi machine. The last Betamax machines were usually the best quality, the earliest ones were usually more reliable but were only marginally better than VHS at the time.

Oh & I agree with you in that Betamax was more advanced at the time, however the quality was only really better with one hour tapes. They had to produce two hour tapes in order to compete with? VHS, however that had a side effect of reducing the quality to more or less the same as standard VHS.

Believe me, Pat Williams' theme was MUCH BETTER (and more appropriate sounding, given the series' 1953-'54 time frame) in season one; CBS simply wanted a more "contemporary" version for season two. The new regime aired this show alongside the re-tooled (horribly) second season of "Mork and Mindy" and it didn't work. And when the new regime came to ABC in early 1980,? following the exit of then-ABC head honcho Fred Silverman's move from ABC to NBC, the bulk of ABC was feeling a ratings sting on most of their shows by 1980, including "The Associates."

That's because it WAS a spin-off. Nancy Blansky was a cousin to Richie Cunningham. She appeared on one episode as the character, and Blansky's Beauties premiered on ABC a week later. Morita left Happy Days for the show (where Al Molinara took over Arnold's) and Scott Baio had yet to appear as Chachi on the show. Oddly Blansky took place in the 70's rather than the 50's, and Nancy and Arnold didn't seem to age a day. Basically this is the unknown? spinoff of Happy Days.
