Well, you will never learn karate ANYWHERE if that is your mindset. One of THE best Shotokan men I eve met was an American, Heavy set, 59 years old. He had been doing Shotokan for 40+ years at the time. His knowledge of body mechanics was amazing? and he hit like a freight train. FAR better teacher than many Japanese I have encountered.

There's a lot of truth to that. I was in a TKD school where everything was so orchestrated that, in the street, you would almost need to have an attacker let you tell him how to come at you. About the only benefit of? that school was some good exercise. OTOH, I was in a Shotokan school where the sensei, who was also a police officer and a former Navy SEAL, didn't care how you came at him, he could put you back in your place. And, he taught his students the same way. Real world fighting, not fake.

sorry my bro. but karate is martial art that developed in war. this is a martial art to protect, fight, and even kill samurai with katana or spear armed using empty hand (judo is designed to kill full armor samurai). the techniques is found? in live or dead situation. old school karate they use weapon too like tonfa sai or bo. i prefer stick than knife. its give better protection. better range. not too flashy. and i hate spilling blood.

I would say based on this comment you are around 15 and probably a yellow belt. Sosai Oyama studied under Gichin Funakoshi who invented? Shotokan. Sosai blended Goju, Shotokan and other styles to create Kyokushin which he believed is the strongest karate. All karate is derived from Okinawan based karate and none is better than the other. They all focus on different aspects.

Yeah it does, it's harder to knock-out someone when your only allowed to punch to the body bareknuckle and kick/knee to head, that's why I said? Kyokushin is tougher - Muay Thai is one of the top stand-up styles, no-one can deny that, yes in knock-down karate there is no head punches, just like in Muay Thai there are gloves, two different sports. I've been punched with boxing/mma gloves, handwraps and bareknuckle - bareknuckle hurts alot, it's bone, straw is not harder than bone.

Also BJJ is nothing more? than Judo with focus on newaza, there is nothing brazilian about it, the only reason Kano focused more on nage-waza (throwing) than newaza was because in real-life nage-waza (throwing) is more important than newaza (submissions) because ground is alot harder than in UFC octagon.

I have nothing against Taekwondo and Karate, but I do have a problem with the way they are taught in the west. There are too many people who teach them like sports, not martial arts. There are thing you learn in ring fighting that are just flat-out impractical in a real fight. It's sad, really. I've seen how effective and deadly the forms can? be if taught correctly, but bringing a sport to a street brawl is like bring a knife to a gun fight.

Karate is a great form and so is Taekwondo.? In my opinion they are both very good. Taekwondo is amazing if the other person knows no formal martial art because in a fight most people wont expect a back hook kick or a roundhouse to the head. But even in the event that the other person knows a martial art, Taekwondo is still and amazing art in which u can defend yourself greatly. So in my personal opinion Taekwondo reigns superior. This Taekwondo Artist just isn't the best at the Art.

Personally, the loudmouth MMA fighters I? met are all talk and no show. Now I have plenty of friends that have gone pro in MMA and they are people I consider competent strong martial artists. Frankly anyone below the pro MMA level, is equal if not worse than any other average martial artist. All BS aside as far as Karate goes or MMA goes. To all of those who think this is American Karate, the karate people can laugh at, you have no clue. This style is the OG, the? style you can't find outside Okinawa. This is the style that killed Samurai. This style was designed only for killing and killing fast. Look up Federacion Madrilena de Karate, World Karate Federation, Shotokan Honbu Dojo, or Real Federacion Espanola? de Karate, they should have information about karate schools in Madrid. I don't know how good the schools are, that's for you to find out personally. Hope this information helps.

Don't forget, they're taught that techniques like that are unpractical and very dishonorable. They're sport fighters, so of course they wouldn't know what real fighting was. And? they think the only practical MA in the world is Brazilian Jujutsu because, "Why would I stand and fight when i can tackle you and break your arm, haha yuk yuk XD?" Not realizing someone WILL smash them in the head with a brick as they attempt too. But then again, they're sport fighters.

Hi i have studied Shotokan since i was 3 and know i am 32, i recently met a man at the NEC martial arts show who trains in Okinawan Karate...i was very impressed by what i saw and the Katas i? practised with him, its always refreshing to train in different types of martial arts. I think if you are watching Kata you have to visualise the opponent attacking him. Katas have a great meaning to them and train the mind well. No such thing as a bad Martial art just bad teacher(s) Thanks for Video.

I c a lot of MMA thugs think that Traditonal Karate is not practical. You thugs need to know you will have no eyes and balls left if you try something like take down against real Karateka. Because ,In real combat, they can rip your nose, ear and throat, kick to your supporting knee, grown so many things if you try to BJJ hug him. You see how often lowblow easily occur in MMA?? Yet, the referee saves you. But against real karateka who does hundreds front kicks everyday aiming ur groin, u'd b dead
