I've done this in the past & it works great but I added on other step to speed up the process so i can get back inside a little faster. When the dog is on leash and I've started the training process I make sure that i keep the dog moving to get things "moving" on the inside that much faster. make it even easier is i just have her walk in a circle around me & keep a good pace going until she has to? go. as a result when i tell her "go potty" she trots around at a faster pace & gets done quicker

I tried the leash, the "Get Busy" phrase for over 2 weeks and it did absolutely nothing. So instead, I tell my dog "Poo Outside" and he's catching on a lot faster. I do reward him immedetely after he does his business with? a treat and praise him. I'll say "Good boy, poo outside"... Just sayin'

I accustomed to my mom telling her dog to "go potty," only he doesn't listen at all lol. I think her problem is that she doesn't put him on a leash or really even reward him, so he's not doing the whole "go potty outside" thing. This is a great thing to teach your dog, especially if you have a service dog. I plan to train my service dog to do this? when I get her.

Also with natural diets, you can introduce foods that benefit your dog. We had one of our cats bring in some fleas this summer and I found out that garlic in a dogs diet helps to deter the fleas away from your dog. it does take a while to take affect, something like 4-6 weeks I think to be fully effective, but what is it to throw some garlic in to your dogs diet? all the little things add up and they all benefit a natural? diet. firm supporter right here

Its also important to note that some "kibble" dog foods have 2-3 times the amount of nutrients your dog might need. This will lead to unconsumed nutrients your dogs stomach and later when it is released the dog might take it as another meal... leading to problems. not that it necessarily has to. ? I just thought I would share this because I had a buddy with a similar problem and when i learned about it I started my pup on a natural diet and haven't had a single problem.

Correct and you should cook the plant stuff if? preparing your dog's food so it's easily digestible. Going by how they smell pet food factories ferment the grain to replicate stomach contents. Personally I think it's the butter and salt on the CotC they're getting excited about. :) Now that I'm down to little dogs I'm looking into homemade or supplementing kibble with raw meat, seems 50-30% grain is the general rule (except for BARF).

But isn't what's in another animal's stomach already (partly) digested? That seems a lot more gentle on the predator's stomach than having corn for dinner themselves. LOL, I always get a kick out of "don't feed people food". Same people often warn against "byproducts". So what is left? Coyotes always eat corn in the wild around here, it's in the deer stomachs almost year round. My dogs have always loved corn on the cob, they get excited about it. When she caught it, I started praising her before she spat it out, and? thzen showered her with treats. Then I began throwing non food items more often and treats less often, praising her and giving her treats every time she caught one of the toys. So she learned that catching the toys was a good thing. Eventually I got to the point where I could just throw a ball at her and she would catch it, even if she knew it wasn´t a treat.

You actually care? Explaining it is going to take long though... Well, I started throwing treats at her, saying "catch" every time I threw it. If she caught it, she got to eat it, if she didn´t, I quickly picked it up again before she could. Eventually, once she started opening her mouth just because I said "catch" even if I hadn´t thrown the treat yet. Then I started mixing? in non food items, and since she wasn´t even looking what it was, she caught those too.

no, its not an accident waiting to happen. Building drive in a dog does not equate to creating an out of control dog.? Games like this teach the dog how to listen even when highly aroused and excited. Which is actually safer for a dog who's going to spend any amount of time around kids. I have kids, I have four dogs. Depending on your dog, have some version of a "PARTY!" with the toy -within earshot of your dog. They will become intersted in anything you place high value on like that. Then play with them and the toy (any toy, heck a sock or a carboard box would work, too). Your dog has never played with toys before? Fill a pencil case with their breakfast, attach it to a leash, let them see what's inside and then start moving it around a bit so the kibble starts to come out. ? Have fun!

What a shame people have to try to make themselves look clever by picking apart a video that demonstrates a fun way to achieve great drive and control through play.? It's very clear the dog understands the game - look at how quickly he backs off the toy when the cue to take it isn't given - fabulous. I love playing with my dogs this way, you get wonderful drive and with that drive comes the motivation to perform enthusiastically. Maybe not for the inexperienced but I love it!! :)

Very good point you are making here, Susan. I went to a seminar given by a behaviorist where we were shown a video clip of a golden retriever puppy who was a resource guarder. The owner was given some very bad advice by a very bad trainer, telling her to force the puppy to give up whatever he was guarding, by putting her knee? on the puppy's back and not giving up on the object until the puppy let go. At the age of 6 months, this puppy was put down, because he became very aggressive.

while I respect your right to have your opinion, I use this very technique for building drive in flyball dogs. And what I think you miss is that we only play like this with one object. The TUG! My dogs know what a TUG is and what is NOT a TUG. They are not idiots, they know when we are playing, and when we are not? playing. I have 9 dogs who all live in the house uncrated together (I have some very high drive dogs when it comes to play), yet I have no issues like you suggest

...and reinforce the set of instinctual behaviours that you want displayed? I wouldnt include this in my training as I do not want my dogs reinforced for displaying this type of behaviour, it goes directly against my cues to keep them on the ground near people with wavy things in the air (so they dont snatch stuff and knock kids over) :) Having recently taken my puppy to "puppy classes" (which were great) the amount of times the others ignored the trainer saying "dont say no no no"? is crazy!

I've always understood "Drive" is how likely a dog is to show instinctual behaviours? - this video seems to illustrate that if you raise your voice and dance about you incite your dog to 'shout' back again and because the jumping/barking is reinforced by attention from you and a moving toy its likely this will generalise eventually to all toys and is an accident waiting to happen if you have young kids about? Surely what you should do to increase drive is increase the dogs confidence ...

This is why many dogs hold their ball/toy tighter rather than spit it out when their owner hollers at them or tries to pry their jaws open. Reinforcement does build behaviour and if? it wasn't reinforcing to hang on --the dog wouldn't do it. A high dog like "Buzz" wouldn't need this but if you wanted to increase a dog's drive to "hold" -- yes, play fighting the dog for the toy is an effective way of doing it.

@shoesfx If you want to do it on the PC I'm pretty sure it should be the same button that's used to interact with a regular person. I believe it's "E". I can be wrong I play on the Xbox but it's worth a try. Just face your dog and it should say in? a little box "E", then under that, Whistle.

@RomanceZs ya i got the pc version. so much more easy just to hack the game then do all those hour long or more glitches. as for this, i should probly wait till i complete the game to do this right? since then ill be able to do all the training in one shot. seems that way for most things, better to wait and complete the game so you have everything.? only downside to pc is me not haveing multiplay but thats just cause ive got cracked game. oh well, dont need multi for 50 bucks anyway.

Not sure this is "New News"---(the article is dated 04-12-2012)--However, the entire video is Caesar Milan, *KICKING* dogs to train. Also, in the video shows training another guy, have *NO CLUE* what he thought the dog was doing wrong, but hauled off and GUT KICKED the dog, to the point, Dog Yelped, laid quickly on the ground, Milan's response---SHUSH to the dog. Vid? is FULL of dogs wanting to bite Milan. Scary thing is, kids who see this, think is' "Appropriate" and are kicking he dog!!1 *sigh*

Just because YOU say that SAR is purely positive, doesn't make it true. Most SAR dogs in the US are still trained with shock, which is not necessary, as is shown daily by the Germans, Swiss, Japanese and others. What you don't know seems to fill volumes. It's not really easy, training a dog to ignore busted refrigerators in rubble after a? 7-o earthquake and find people. Some train to only find living (Germans). Others train to find living and dead (Swiss).

So - you're not going to take me up on the challenge. I work with aggressive dogs besides my own. Yes, I do freestyle with mine, but also hunting field trials. So my challenge stands: I will not use my clicker for three months with either? my dog or with my clients' dogs. You stop using your prong collar for three months with your dog and clients' dogs. We'll both film the training. And we'll see how that training goes.

I can explain that. Searching work is best when done purely positive, that has been proven.? But Protection, attack, and Non-complaint suspect detaining work Needs 100% reliability, that positive methods have yet to produce sadly. I keep trying with my personal dogs. The dog MUST always let go of the suspect at the moment it is given the command. So I'm up against the wall, The police demand high drive powerful dogs that respond at a 100%.
