You've probably noticed that the roof of your horse's mouth has ridges in the soft palate. With your fingers on the top of the horse's nose, your thumb can do some TTouch on the palate. This will also give you a sense of how much room there is inside your horse's mouth. Does he have thick lips or tongue, or a low? palate? This can help you to determine the thickness of bit that might be comfortable for him to carry.

Since most male horses and some mares have a single (canine) tooth between the molars and incisors, use only two fingers to reach in to tap the tongue. With your free hand holding the halter, rest the thumb of your working hand in the chin groove,? and use your index and middle fingers to reach in at the corner of the mouth and tap the tongue gently.

Once you can lift the upper lip, keep four fingers lightly together and slide the side of your index finger back and forth over the gums between the front teeth and upper lip, leaving the thumb on the outside. ? The outside of the mouth and chin is generally a good place to start. You may use Abalone or Lying Leopard TTouches around the muzzle, and Lying Leopard or Clouded Leopard TTouches around the chin. I've tried something similar, or should I say I "massage" my horses the same way but had never seen this till I read about it. I'd like to know what is a good way to get a foal to stop biting. I'm getting ready to start working with her and introducing her to the halter but she? seems to be chewing everything, and immediately goes to biting the minute you're close enough... any ideas?

To do TTouches, one must start slowly, because many of the touches require your dog's trust and respect to begin. I do these with my horse as well and when we began, the neck release took a while for her to understand that she? needed to stand while I pulled from beneath her chin. Now, when I put my hands under the chin, she practically does it herself. My dogs were very high-strung puppies when I began with them and all I did was exercise them A LOT so they were already tired when I began.

I got the book a little over a week ago for my fear aggressive doggie/leash puller. Almost a BRAND NEW DOG! I used? the clouded leopard, lying leopard, and bodywrapping as well as a little moth TTouches and tail TTouches. Wow, this seems to be very effective! My 18yr old TB mare, tends to? rush alot, she also tosses her head. When she does i just really try to relax my seat and halt halt her to get her into a more relaxed frame. She is always worst when i start working. I've also had the dentist come out and look at her, her teeth are fine.

I volunteer at an SPCA to work with troubled, feral, shy cats.Offering food bribes from my hand & combining that with touching the cats flank or head has often worked for me. Playing with the cats(shoelace) distracting them with a toy and starting to slip a hand over their head. It takes patience. but I find that if you sit quietly and take deep breaths to relax, your cat who reads energy really well will slowly start to relax. I had a cat like yours and I did this technique and then he started coming up to me and I would lightly massage his head and then the rest of his body and then he would come up to me and sit on my lap and look? at me as if to ask "Well, what are you waiting for. I'm ready for my spa treatment".

We gave her a home, company, garden to run/hunt in & tried to avoid stressing her. We fed her well & she was never ill (till old age) except once: an abcess in one pad. She slashed my face quite deeply when I tried to apply antibiotic cream - had the scars for years - had to put on my fencing mask. The poor thing was just so terrified

@Alley~ Are you moving the skin or just moving your fingers on the skin? Remember to take a deep breath yourself and calmly breathe out as you finish the circle...Before I took a class, I was only moving my fingers on the? skin, not pushing the skin ever so lightly in a circle...big difference in the results for me. Again, relax and breathe so you are in heart coherence....:-) Enjoy the touch with your animal friends.

Hi prinsses9742 Don't worry--you can't really do TTouch "wrong!" If? you pay particular attention to your breathing (calm, centered) and your heart connection to your horses, plus a little concentration on the pressure and the exactness of the circles, you will find your horses' reaction will begin to change. I'v read the Heartland books and herd about the TTouch. I don't really understand how to do it. I tried it on my horses and they don't relax like i'v herd in the? books and in the videos. I think i'm doing it wrong! Can someone please give me some tips? -Alley

I read about this in the? Heartland and Chestnut Hill books. I tried it out and couldn't ever really get it. There was a speaker about it a few years back, but I didn't really understand. I read in Amy's Journal about how to do it, and I tried it on a horse who hold his neck tight when he's going round the arena. He responded but I don't think I was doing it right. Thank you for posting this! I understand now!!!
